Ten years of a signature look is ending, and Saint Laurent hasn't said what comes next. As The Zoe Report confirmed, Anthony Vaccarello's departure as creative director was announced via press release on Friday, Oct. 10, following months of industry speculation that had been building since his Spring/Summer 2027 show at Paris Fashion Week.

Here's the timeline worth knowing. Vaccarello took over Saint Laurent a decade ago after Hedi Slimane's exit, having previously run Versus Versace while building his own label. His final show, staged against the Eiffel Tower, closed with a note that reads differently in hindsight: "A light shines all the more brightly because we know it cannot be held." According to The Zoe Report, front row attendees including Zoë Kravitz and Hailey Bieber appeared to tear up as the show ended. Vaccarello also posted a retrospective reel to Instagram captioned "À bientôt," French for "see you soon."

What actually changes for shoppers. A creative director exit isn't just a masthead update. It's the person who decides what a house's clothes look like, who wears them in campaigns, and which accessories become the ones you recognize across handbags, shoes and everything in between. Vaccarello's Saint Laurent was defined by a specific vocabulary: sharp, sexy suiting, exaggerated proportions, and a tightly controlled palette that leaned achromatic. Those signatures became shorthand for the brand itself, and they're exactly what's now up for reinterpretation by whoever takes the job next.

That's the real transition point for anyone who follows the house, whether you buy the clothes or just recognize the silhouette on a red carpet. The tailoring that made Kate Moss, Catherine Deneuve, Charli XCX and Rosé into recurring faces of the brand was a specific creative point of view, not a fixed identity. New creative directors tend to bring their own ideas about scale, color and what the accessories should communicate, and houses often use the moment to reset tone entirely.

Kering CEO Luca de Meo thanked Vaccarello for strengthening "the enduring influence of one of France's greatest couture houses" as the brand "embarks on a new chapter," per the company's statement. No successor has been named, and there's no indication yet of where Vaccarello goes next.

What remains genuinely unknown. Both of the interesting questions are still open. Who replaces him will shape what Saint Laurent looks like on the runway and on shelves for years. And where Vaccarello lands next, if he does, will tell you whether his particular vocabulary shows up again somewhere else entirely.

For now, the practical move is simply to watch the appointment announcement when it comes, since that's the moment that will actually answer what Saint Laurent looks like next.
